Open Kick is now Sanguine Drums. It has the kick and a new snare, with hi-hats and more coming. If you purchased Open Kick, you can use your license to activate Sanguine Drums.
Design Notes:
I tried to find the most useful parameters for shaping a kick, but personally my favorite part of the plugin is being able to import a sample and match the settings to it.
Being able to measure the pitch and volume envelopes of a sample and reproduce them with an oscillator has benefits beyond what a DAW offers.
After iterations of having parameters behind hidden menus and scrolling, I found it easier to use if every parameter is shown on screen. If you want to see less, compact mode keeps just the main controls, your favorite parameters, and your presets.
Another part that makes this plugin different is being able to randomize any parameter once or on every hit, and being able to set the ranges individually. One nice feature that is less visible is that you can type a percentage into a Min or Max cell (e.g. "2%"), and the range is set to that width, centered on the current value. You can also skew each range so random values lean toward the min or the max (by right-clicking the randomization range sliders).
You may be wondering why Open Kick has no factory presets. First, the main point is to use samples you already have. Second, since the residuals contain part of the original sample, presets made from sample packs would carry copies of those sounds, which I didn't want to redistribute.
